There are 5 easy steps to
putting real music on your Black Planet web page.
First you will need to have the
song you want saved on your computer. You can record your personal cd`s onto
your hard drive, or you can download almost ANY song off the internet with the
file sharing program winMX. If
you download a song from WinMX, make sure it has a "44100" frequency.
And try to download songs that are 4-5 million bytes or less.
If you do not have a jukebox on your computer already, download the free
version of MusicMatch Jukebox. This program allows you to record your own
cd`s, and converts MP3 files to WAV. Whether you record from your own CD or
download a song from WinMX, it will be in MP3 format and you will need
MusicMatch Jukebox to convert it to a WAV.
In the file menu of MusicMatch, scroll down to Convert. The file box
shown below will open.

The left side holds information on the MP3 file you want to convert. In the Source Directory box click on the little folder
next to the directory where your file is located. Below that in the Highlight Files to Convert box, choose the file
you want to convert. Below that, the Source Data
Type box should read "MP3".
The right side has the information for the newly converted WAV file. In the Destination Directory, choose the folder where
you want to save your converted file. Choose "WAV" in the Destination Data Type box on the bottom right.
Then click START. You will see your file being converted.

Now once you have your song on
your computer saved as a WAV you will need to compress the file. Music
files are much too large to upload to webpages. You can compress the file by
downloading dBpowerAMP Music
Converter or by using software that`s probably already on your computer,
called the Sound Recorder.
To run the Sound Recorder, click on START Choose RUN

A run program box will appear. In the Open field, type in:
c:\windows\sndrec32.exe as shown below.

Windows XP users: type c:\windows\system32\sndrec32.exe
in the Run program box. If the file is located in another directory do a file search for "sndrec32.exe".
Now click the OK button and the sound recorder program box will open.

Click on the FILE menu and then choose OPEN

Now the open dialogue box will appear. Find the directory where you have the
WAV file you wish to convert. Click on that WAV and then click OPEN

Now you should have a Sound Recorder Box with the name of your file at the top.
Click on FILE then pick PROPERTIES.

The Properties box will pop up. Now click on CONVERT NOW.

The Sound Selection box will pop up. In the NAME field choose CD
Quality. In the FORMAT field, choose MPEG Layer-3. Scroll
down to choose the MPEG Layer-3 format.

Now you want to choose the ATTRIBUTES field.

Choose the 32kBit/s 22,050 Hz, Mono, 4KB/s. Now your sound selection box
will look like this.
Windows XP users:: choose 32kBit/s,
22,050 Hz,Mono, 3KB/s.

Click OK. You will see your WAV file being compressed.

The dialogue properties box will pop up when your WAV is finished compressing. Compare the properties of the new WAV to the original. It has been reduced significantly.

Click on OK. Finally your
home free. The sound recorder will appear and you can listen to your WAV
by clicking on the PLAY button or you can goahead and save your new
compressed WAV file by choosing SAVE or SAVE AS if you want to
rename the file.

Now that you have your new
compressed wave, you need to create a separate webpage account off BlackPlanet
because you can not upload music (WAV, MP3, WMA) files directly onto
BlackPlanet`s server. Open a free web page at a site that allows file sharing
and the ability to upload WAV files, such as FreeHomePages.com. Free
websites like Angelfire or Geocities may not allow file sharing or have limited
bandwidth. Upload your newly compressed WAV. It may take awhile for the WAV to
upload, so be patient. Although the file has been compressed it is still very
large. Of course, if you have webspace that you are paying for you can
upload your WAVS there. There are usually no restrictions on file sharing for
web space that is payed for. Just remember that if your BP page gets alot of
hits the music file may eat up your daily alotted bandwidth.
Once you've finished uploading the song, make sure it works by clicking on the
song file. Your default media player should open (Windows Media Player,
MusicMatch Jukebox, etc.), and the song should begin playing.

To make the music play on your BP page, use the following
code in your personal message:
First you have to get the actual URL (or web address) where your file is
stored. To get the URL of your file, go to the FILE MANAGERwhere you
are storing your music file. Right click on the name of the link to your music
file. A pop-up box should appear, scroll down to and click on PROPERTIES.
The properties box will appear with information on your file. Note the URL/Address of the file.
This is the information that will replace "URL" in
the code. The complete code for the song in the example looks like this:
Copy the code below to make your music play.
Don`t forget to replace "URL" with the actual web address for your
song. Don`t remove the quotes!
VOILA - YOU NOW HAVE MUSIC!!!:
